CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has revealed the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, boasting significant upgrades in camera technology, performance, and battery life. These latest models include a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture, marking a first for the iPhone. Powered by the new A20 Pro processor and equipped with a redesigned thermal system, the phones are available for pre-order starting September 12, with retail launches scheduled for September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions.

The camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro introduces four selectable aperture options to optimize lighting and depth of field. These apertures are f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and f/4.0 supported by the main sensor. The system also features 48-megapixel Ultra Wide and Telephoto lenses. New Pro controls enable manual adjustments for aperture, shutter speed, and white balance within the Camera app, and users can monitor a histogram during photo or video capture.
Apple has rolled out Reference Image, an opt-in feature designed to authenticate photographs. When users take a shot in Reference mode, the device captures signed sensor data that generates a reference image, allowing users to compare it with edited versions in the Photos app. Additionally, support for image metadata and the SynthID standard will be added, with SynthID support arriving via a software update later in 2026.
Enhanced camera controls now include variable aperture
The A20 Pro chip employs a 2-nanometer manufacturing process and integrates a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. It also features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, totaling 32 cores dedicated to AI processing. Apple claims the GPU offers performance up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The devices also incorporate a redesigned vapor chamber that increases surface area for better sustained performance. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread through Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip.
Battery life has also improved across the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Apple rates the eSIM-only variants of the Pro for up to 36 hours of video playback, while the Pro Max can reach up to 45 hours under the same conditions. The iPhone 18 Pro can achieve a 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes with compatible wired accessories. The removal of the physical SIM tray creates extra space within the device for a larger battery, enabling the eSIM-only models to be sold across several Middle Eastern markets.
Siri AI Debuts with iOS 27
Preloaded with iOS 27, the new phones support Siri AI via Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for compatible devices set to English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish scheduled for October. This software can utilize personal context from messages, emails, and photos when executing commands and is capable of responding to content displayed on the screen. Apple Intelligence ensures on-device processing and supports Private Cloud Compute for cloud-based tasks.
Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both models are available with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Color choices include burgundy, glacier, silver, and black. In the UAE, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at AED 5,099. Preorders commence on September 12, with official sales starting on September 18. An additional 20 countries and regions are expected to receive the new devices on September 25.
